Tilting Flume Apparatus

The "Mechnotech Innovators" designed small open channel flume, available in 2.5m or 5.0m, 7m, 10m, 15m lengths, with transparent toughned glass sides to the working section for total visibility of the flow. The channel is fitted with a Stainless steel inlet tank, and is designed for free discharge into the Sump tanks or Hydraulics Bench. The flume is mounted on a rigid framework, and can be tilted by use of a calibrated screw jack, which allows accurate slope adjustment of the channel. The inlet tank incorporates a stilling arrangement to diffuse the water flow prior to entry into the channel, ensuring smooth uniform flow. The level in the working section of the flume is controlled using an overshot weir at the discharge end. Bed pressure tappings and fixing points for models are provided. A longitudinal scale positioned at the top of the channel allows depth gauges and Pitot-static tubes to be accurately positioned along the channel length.

The present set-up is fabricated from Stainless Steel. Various types of hydraulic control structure like blocks, gates, weirs can be mounted in the flow path of water in the channel to observe and photograph the flow pattern around those hydraulic control structures. This channel is floor mounted. Instrument carrying trolley is provided to move on rail along the entire working length of the flume, fitted with scale. A pointer gauge, fitted on trolley, is provided to measure the depth of flow, and it can move on the rail. At the inlet of the flume an inlet tank with stilling and smoothing arrangement is provided for obtaining the excellent velocity profile in the test section. At the discharge side a gate is provided. This gate maintains the operating water levels for the flume. This flume can be tilted using a jacking system, easily operated by hand. The flow channel is self-contained re-circulating unit provided with sump tank, centrifugal pump, and control valve.
