Absorption in Sieve Plate Column Apparatus

The set-up consists of stainless steel column fitted with perforated plates, feed tank, CO2 cylinder with regulator, air regulator with pressure gauge, Rotameter, receiving tanks and piping. Metered quantity of fluid is distributed over the packing/perforated plates while metered gas and airflow is passed through the bed vertically upwards. The gas-air mixture is absorbed in the liquid. All the flow rates can be independently varied to simulate different conditions and by measuring the concentration of gas absorbed in the liquid the overall volumetric mass transfer coefficients can be calculated.
